The Hammers’ Season Ahead

At 3.00pm on Saturday, we play host to our bitter-sweet rivals, Tottenham Hotspur – a team we did the triple over last season. Even though we had a poor pre-season, all of that will be forgotten should we come out of this game victorious.

Do we have a good chance of winning? Sure. Why not? We are a lot better equipped than we were last season. It has been a very long time since we’ve done such good business in a transfer window – it could even go back as far as when we picked up both Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano back in 2006.

In typical West Ham fashion, a few of our players are out for the start of the season through injury…but this time around we have added a good amount of depth to our squad. I can see Diego Poyet raising some eyebrows this season. The 19-year-old has good vision, and is extremely comfortable on the ball.

Aaron Cresswell is another new player I feel will have a good season. For many years, we have been making do with left-backs that are just about good enough for the job. However, in Cresswell, I feel we have a solid player which will occupy that position for the years ahead.

What about Sam Allardyce? I can see him getting sacked at some point during the season. If not, I am 99% sure he will be gone once the season is over. One of the conditions he got for this season is to play more attractive football. I believe he will do this for a few games at the start of the season…but the lump-it football will return at some point.

I will be happy with a mid-table finish. There has been whispers of European football, which I think is bordering on delusional, but with the players at Sam Allardyce’s disposal, a relegation threat should not be an issue at all.

Come on you Irons!
