The Final Stretch

February 2014 made a great month for West Ham United. We won all four of our games and picked up 12 integral points to push us away from the fires of the relegation zone. Sam Allardyce deservedly won Manager of the Month, we were sitting in a comfortable 10th place and everything was looking on the up.

Sadly, the Premier League is not that kind. The fires of the relegation zone flared up, and out came the hand of demonic side of the world’s greatest league and started to pull us back down towards the bad end of the table.

We have had three matches so far this month, all of them losses. If I am to be completely honest, I wasn’t expecting much out of them anyway. Everton are still clinging onto the heels of the top four, Stoke are always hard to beat at their ground and Manchester United just came off the back of a great result against Olympiakos.

Anyways, dwelling on about the past is not going to get anywhere. We have eight games left to pick up at least 5 points. 36 points looks to be around the right tally to ensure our Premier League status for next season.

Tonight we play host to Hull City. A win will allow us to leapfrog them, Norwich and Aston Villa to take 11th place. It is these type of games that we need to take full advantage of, as by looking at our remaining fixtures, we have a hard run-in. I am hoping we are able to pick up those much needed 5 points against Hull, Crystal Palace and West Brom. Anything we pick up against the other teams will be a Brucey Bonus.

So with a win tonight, we will be on course to a comfortable finish. A loss is simply not an option. With Liverpool and Arsenal just around the corner, we need to pick up as many points as possible from the teams around us.

Come on you irons!
