Hammers’ best ever transfer window?

West Ham fans far and wide were all expecting the same old story – we get linked to 'marquee' signings who were unable to come to an agreement, so we bring in some has-beens instead.

Hammers’ best ever transfer window?

This has been the West Ham formula for far too many seasons. When not bringing in luxury players, we used to let ours go.

The Summer 2014-15 transfer window has been a completely different story. Not only have we snapped up some ‘luxury’ players in Cheikhou Kouyaté, Aaron Cresswell, Enner Valencia and Mauro Zárate, but we have also made a couple of fantastic loan deals in Alex Song and Carl Jenkinson. Pretty much every single player is an upgrade to what we had last season in their respective positions. Sakho, Diego Poyet and Morgan Amalfitano also have the potential to impress the West Ham faithful.

Not only have we bolstered our chances of finishing in the top half of the Premier League this season, but we have also set ourselves up for the future and our move into the Olympic Stadium. The average age of our new signings is 24.5 years old…this is a huge difference to our past windows where it would have been around 30 years old.

David Sullivan and David Gold are most certainly starting to build for the future as our new signings arrive, so we enter the Olympic Stadium with a young settled squad who are all on lengthy contracts, of which the average is 4 years.

Monday night showed us just what we can expect for the remainder of the season. Enner Valencia shows that he has a touch of brilliance in him, while Sakho is not afraid to put in a bit of legwork. Kouyaté has been our best player this season so far, alongside the born again Stuart Downing. Aaron Cresswell was at fault for Hull’s second goal, but everyone makes mistakes, he has been a solid player otherwise. Zárate is also capable of producing a bit of magic, but just needs to work on his decision-making a bit more.

The more time our new signings get to gel, the better we are going to get. This is most certainly going to be an exciting season for all those associated with West Ham United F.C.

Come on you Irons!
