West Brom v Man City tips – Citizens will hit the ground running
Manchester City will extend their dominance over the Baggies tonight at the Hawthorns
August 10th, 2015
City stumbled across the finish line last season, failing to mount a genuine challenge to eventual winners Chelsea as the campaign drew to a close, however manager Manuel Pellegrini will be determined to pile more pressure on the West London side as they hunt for their third Premier League title.
Pellegrini has been splashing out on a number of high-profile signings throughout the summer months, perhaps the most notable being Raheem Sterling in a £50million move from rivals Liverpool and Fabian Delph from Aston Villa.
Edin Dzeko and James Milner have moved in the opposite direction away from the Etihad Stadium, however we’re expecting some more new names to arrive in Eastlands, especially so since Pellegrini will be looking to further bolster his options in attack.
West Brom have stumbled through the last two seasons with regular flirtations with the drop zone and boss Tony Pulis will be demanding a much-improved showing this term. The club have managed to keep hold of Saido Berahino and have boosted the squad with the addition of Darren Fletcher, James McClean, James Chester and Rickie Lambert.
Indeed, Pulis will be looking forward to his first full campaign with West Brom and he will be eager to upset City’s title challenge this evening. Can they manage to halt City at the first hurdle? Unlikely, given that tonight’s hosts have failed to win against their illustrious opponents since 2008, losing nine of their last ten encounters.
Sergio Aguero will be the player to watch in this fixture, the Argentinian scoring no less than 32 goals throughout last season and we’ll be expecting this trend to continue this evening.
City’s fast flowing attack may well leave them rather vulnerable at the back and West Brom could capitalise on this by giving the home fans a goal to cheer, however ultimately the visitors will be ruthless in attack and the City fans will be the ones cheering at the final whistle.
