Wayne Rooney backed heavily to be Premier League top scorer
Wayne Rooney goes from 20/1 to 10/1 as Manchester United skipper looks set to play up front
August 5th, 2015
The Premier League season starts on Saturday and it will be Manchester United kicking things off against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
United will be looking to mount a title challenge this season and it appears that Louis van Gaal is going to put his faith in Wayne Rooney when it comes to the most advanced attacking position on the field.
Since Rooney was given the virtual nod for this position, then the punters have been keen to back the United skipper, with odds of 20/1 swiftly vanishing and betfair are now as short as 8/1 about the England captain.
Rooney could enjoy a flying start with games against Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle, with Memphis Depay likely to operate in tandem as United look to avoid the slow start which saw them playing catch-up last term.
Sergio Aguero is the 3/1 favourite to score the most goals, with the Manchester City forward winning the Golden Boot last season, while Diego Costa is a 6/1 chance although there are doubts over the Chelsea forward’s hamstring.
Harry Kane is a 14/1 poke to improve on last year’s third place in the scoring charts, with Christian Benteke and Alexis Sanchez also in with a shout at odds of 16/1 and 20/1 respectively.
