Most Tottenham fans won’t have previously heard of Nacer Chadli although the north London club have spent £7million to bring the winger from FC Twente, with the 23-year-old expected to shortly join his new team-mates in Hong Kong as part of their pre-season warm-up.
Tottenham released a statement: “The 23-year-old, who has been capped on 14 occasions by his country, joined FC Twente from Apeldoorn in 2010 and went on to make 106 appearances for the Dutch side, scoring 31 goals.”
Spurs have already signed Brazilian international midfielder Paulinho, with Villas-Boas now looking to strengthen the midfield department ahead of the new season, with Tottenham having narrowly missed out on the Champions League places last term.
Chadli will join Belgian compatriots Moussa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen at White Hart Lane, with the club clearly looking to continue recruiting young talent who can flourish over several seasons with Tottenham.
It appears that the club will retain the services of Gareth Bale for at least one more season, with the Welshman having committed himself to the north London club.
