Tottenham Hotspur 1 Manchester United 1 – Dempsey scores late equaliser
It was very nearly the classic away performance from Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s team containing Tottenham at White Hart Lane until injury-time where Clint Dempsey forced the ball home after good work from Aaron Lennon.

Spurs deserved at least a point after creating a series of second-half chances after Robin van Persie had put the visitors into a first-half lead. After that goal from the Dutchman, the Red Devils were happy to soak up pressure and counter on the break.
There was some uncertainty over whether the game would go ahead due to constant snowfall, although the ground passed a referee’s inspection and the match was played in reasonable conditions.
Tottenham enjoyed plenty of possession, with Dempsey and Gareth Bale probing away at a United defence which featured Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in central defence, although the visitors were to score with practically their first meaningful attack.
Danny Welbeck found Tom Cleverley on the right flank and the England midfielder delivered a perfect cross to the back post where Van Persie had found enough space to nod the ball past Hugo Lloris.
However, Spurs turned the screw in the second half and David de Gea was forced into several good saves, including a close-range effort from Dempsey and a rasping shot from Bale which got a deflection.
Then Dempsey was able to find a way through and Manchester City will feel as though they can now catch their arch-rivals after reducing the gap this weekend.
