We are now 100 days away from the start of the World Cup, with England playing their final friendly on Wednesday night before Roy Hodgson has to start thinking about his final squad that will board the plane for South America.

The match against Denmark will give Hodgson an opportunity to field the players currently on the fringe of the squad, with Luke Shaw set to enjoy his senior debut and the 18-year-old could end up edging out Ashley Cole for a place in the England squad.

We’re backing Shaw to finish the season like a train and essentially bring Cole’s international career to an end, while we also think that Frank Lampard and Michael Carrick might miss out at the expense of younger legs in Brazil.

The goalkeepers are a fairly predictable choice, while Shaw is the only controversial pick of the defenders, with Kyle Walker missing out due to the fact that Glen Johnson will be first choice right-back, while Smalling and Jones can cover in that position.

Gerrard is the first name on the team-sheet as a holding midfielder, with Jordan Henderson playing his way into the starting XI due to his fine form in a Liverpool shirt, while it’s not inconceivable that Raheem Sterling will also line up against Italy for England’s opener.

Finally, we’re backing Andy Carroll to edge out Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez for the final striking place, with Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck nailed-on picks.
