Riyad Mahrez hasn’t looked back since scoring a brace against Sunderland in Leicester’s opening game of the season and the Algerian has become the first African player to life the PFA Player of the Year award.
Mahrez has been sensational for the Foxes as they march towards a first ever Premier League title and it was no surprise that his peers decided he has been the best player in the land this term.
Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante were other players on the shortlist, with Leicester having four players that featured in the PFA Team of the Season including Wes Morgan who has been outstanding at the back for City.
Mahrez pointed to his team-mates’ contribution when collecting the award, saying: “All the credit is for them, seriously. And my manager and the staff. Without them I wouldn’t receive this award and I wouldn’t score. It’s the team spirit. I want to dedicate it to them.
“I’m very grateful to receive this award, it’s a pleasure. It’s extra special because, if the players vote for me, it’s because they’ve seen I’ve been great this year so I’m happy.”
Dele Alli picked up the young player award, with the England international following in the footsteps of his Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane who scooped the same prize twelve months ago.
