Real Madrid draw Atletico in Champions League quarters
The two Madrid sides clash in the last eight of the Champions League, with Barcelona up against Paris Saint-Germain
March 20th, 2015
The Champions League draw saw Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid kept apart, although the latter have received a difficult two-legged tie against their city rivals.
Real and Atletico have clashed six times already this season, with the European champions having failed to win any of these matches and their rivals have walked away victorious on four occasions.
Nevertheless, Real will be favourites despite a recent slump in form which saw Schalke go particularly close to stunning the Spanish side at the Bernabeu.
Barcelona have been pitted against Paris Saint-Germain and will be glad that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is suspended for the first leg although wary that the French champions claimed victory over Chelsea in the previous round.
Bayern Munich are the new favourites after being drawn against Porto, with the German side looking formidable under Pep Guardiola, while Juventus will be expected to get past Monaco over two legs.
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW
PSG v Barcelona
Atletico v Real Madrid
Porto v Bayern Munich
Juventus v Monaco
It will be a case of “what if” for the English clubs who fell by the wayside, with Arsenal likely to be particularly dismayed that they were undone by some slack defending against Monaco in the first leg of their last sixteen tie.
