The Fat Lady – She’s singing
She steps up to the mic, clears her throat and lets out that first powerful note. Yes, the fat lady is singing.

Thanks to a combination of a comfortable 2-0 win over Everton and some hilarious defending on the South coast, Manchester United have won the 2012/13 Premier League title. Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has already paid out on United – even with barely over two thirds of the season played.
It all started in Southampton, where a series of defensive calamities (including a sublime finish by Gareth Barry to put the ball past Joe Hart) saw City fall to a 3-1 defeat at St Marys.
Twenty-two and a half hours later, United extended their lead to 12 points with goals from Ryan Giggs and Robin van Persie.
Sir Alex Ferguson later admitted, in a clear case of trolling, that he changed his team line-up after seeing the City result – opting to take advantage of the neighbours’ misfortune and field a strong team instead of resting his stars for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid.
“The fat lady might not be singing yet but she’s definitely getting warmed up,” said Paddy Power, who has paid out more than £500,000 to punters on United to win the title. “We can’t see United letting their lead slip and with Real Madrid to come in midweek we thought we’d take some of the pressure off Fergie and give punters an early payday.”
The same bookie is also offering Man City fans a free £5 bet, so all isn’t lost for them.
It is worth noting that Paddy Power has been burnt by this before – they paid out on Arsenal in 2003.
