Robin van Persie will sign for Manchester United after £23m fee agreed

It has been evident for several weeks that the Dutchman wanted to leave Arsenal having turned down a new contract and it now seems that United have matched the asking price.
The Arsenal statement said: “[We]can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United. Van Persie will travel to Manchester in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move.”
Quite where Van Persie slots into this Manchester United team remains open to question, although the prospect of Robin and Rooney lining up for the Red Devils is an exciting one, even if the new signing might take a while to bed himself in at Old Trafford.
When asked on Wednesday night on French TV whether he would buy another striker, Arsene Wenger said: “We have already replaced him in buying [Lukas] Podolski and [Olivier] Giroud. We are sad to lose a player of his quality but he had one year left on his contract so we had no choice.”
