Newcastle United 2 Aston Villa 1 – Ba and Cisse keep Magpies flying
Newcastle United are having a fantastic Premier League season and the Magpies enjoyed their 12th win of the campaign on Sunday when beating Aston Villa.

Demba Ba has been such a big success at St James’ Park that Alan Pardew was convinced to buy his Senegalese team mate and Papiss Cisse marked his debut with a stunning winning goal after Ba had put Newcastle into the lead.
The pair would still be at the African Nations Cup if Senegal hadn’t had such a dismal time of things, although Ba showed no signs of rustiness when sending his team into a 1-0 lead after good work from Ryan Taylor.
Taylor was substituted shortly after the game and Newcastle were unable to stay in the ascendancy until half-time, with Robbie Keane latching on to a Charles N’Zogbia assist to level the scoreline.
Aston Villa had chances to take the lead before Papiss Cisse demonstrated why the Magpies have invested £10 million in the latest Newcastle number nine. The striker’s shot was unstoppable with the ball flying past Shay Given and the visitors were unable to fashion a clear scoring chance before the final whistle.
The victory takes Newcastle back above Arsenal and level with Chelsea ahead of Sunday’s match between the Blues and Manchester United.
