Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he wants to sign the 19-year-old from Sao Paolo although the player is currently in Great Britain to feature for Brazil in the 2012 Olympics and his future won’t be decided in a hurry.

Agent Wagner Ribeiro claims that the focus is ensuring the Brazilian side claim a gold medal and told Gazeta Esportiva in response to reports a deal had been done: “This is just speculation from the English press.

“All the parties have to agree: the player, the buying club and the selling club.

“I guarantee 100 per cent that Lucas has not done a deal (with United). He is focused on the Olympics.”

Ferguson said earlier: “We have shown an interest, but until such time we get a deal agreed, we can’t say he’s our player.”

Speaking at a press conference in Shanghai, the Scot added: “We haven’t reached an agreement for the player. We have shown an interest, but until such time a we get a deal agreed, we can’t say he’s our player.”
