Manchester City play Southampton in first Premier League 2012/13 match
Manchester City are favourites to retain their Premier League title and they will kick off the new campaign with a home match against Southampton which could prove to be a baptism of fire for the Hampshire club.

Nigel Adkins’ team were promoted through the Championship last term and make the toughest start possible, with Manchester United also facing a tricky trip to Everton before a home match with Fulham days later.
Arsenal have a home match against Sunderland to kick the season off although that is followed by away games against Stoke and Liverpool, while Newcastle meet Tottenham in what is probably the pick of the opening Premier League matches.
Brendan Rodgers takes charge of Liverpool for his first competitive game when the Merseyside club travel to The Hawthorns to face a West Brom side now managed by Steve Clark who was Kenny Dalglish’s assistant at Anfield last term.
Liverpool’s first three home games are pretty mouth-watering, with Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United all paying an early visit to Anfield.
Reading won the Championship last season and start with a winnable match against Stoke City at the Madejski Stadium, while the Royals could be involved in a thrilling final game of the campaign when they travel to Upton Park to play West Ham.
