Happy Jim White Day
It’s the last day of January and you know what that means – it’s Jim White Day!
January 31st, 2012
January 31st is the day that Sky Sports News lives for. For 363 days a year, it is nothing but tedious cliché-ridden press conferences with Premier League managers, pointless stats about pass completion and the odd feature about a Sky-sponsored cycling team but, for one day in January and one day in the summer, Sky Sports News is worth the £40 a month Sky Sports HD subscription.
So expect to see the yellow ticker of news go into overdrive, expect to see reporters standing outside training grounds in the cold, expect interviews with managers through car windows, expect gangs of youngsters to be pulling faces behind David Craig outside the Stadium of Light and expect Jim White. Yes, it wouldn’t be transfer deadline day without Mr Deadline Day himself.
OK, so Premier League clubs might have realised that chucking £50m around on last minute deals isn’t the best policy, but that won’t stop Jim bursting several blood vessels when Wayne Bridge completes his loan move to Sunderland.
So sit back and enjoy a day of players walking through airports, cameras capturing a grainy picture of a player through a window, every football fan on Twitter claiming to have a mate working at a luxury cab firm, last minute transfer requests being handed in, failed medicals, Arsenal doing nothing, Carlos Tevez being seen in every European capital city and over-use of the phrase “come and get me plea”.
Happy Jim White Day everyone!
