The Toffees came out of the traps flying and it was little surprise when Leighton Baines burst into the opposition penalty area to break the deadlock, with Everton unable to add to their advantage before half-time.
It allowed Alan Pardew to regroup his team and Ba made an instant impact by levelling the scoreline in the 49th minute after good work from Yohan Cabaye, with Leon Osman having conceded possession in the middle of the pitch.
Both teams went for the three points, with Steve Pienaar having a goal disallowed before Victor Anichebe nodded the ball over the line only for the referee’s assistant fail to award the goal.
The striker looked to have claimed victory for Everton in the 87th minute when turning Steven Taylor before slotting past Steve Harper only for Demba Ba to find the net for a second time to ensure Newcastle went home with a share of the spoils.
