Manchester United are now five points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League although the champions left it late to win Monday night’s match at Ewood Park.

Blackburn Rovers looked as though they were going to land a hard-earned point until the 81st minute when Luis Antonio Valencia cut in from the right flank and drilled a shot into the far corner of the net to break the deadlock.
Up until that moment, Manchester United had failed to create any clear-cut chances, with Javier Hernandez having a chance early in the match although in-form striker Wayne Rooney was successfully snuffed out.
Just before half-time, Olsson was denied by a fantastic save from David de Gea, while Grant Hanley’s header was also tipped over by the Spaniard.
United dominated the second half although Blackburn were always dangerous on the counter-attack and Yakubu would have scored if Rio Ferdinand hadn’t produced an excellent tackle to deny the Nigerian at close range.
Ryan Giggs and Danny Welbeck were introduced to inject new life into the visitors’ winning bid, with Valencia eventually putting Manchester United into the lead, while substitute Ashley Young produced an excellent finish to put the game out of sight.
The Red Devils could now be eight points clear of Manchester City if they beat Queens Park Rangers before Roberto Mancini’s side travel to Arsenal.
