Newcastle United keen to sign Charlie Austin in January
Charlie Austin on the Newcastle United radar according to Steve McClaren

No Premier League club lodged a bid for Charlie Austin ahead of transfer deadline day, although the QPR striker could be leaving Loftus Road in January instead.
Austin was among the top scorers in the top flight last season and was widely expected to complete a move in the summer, although West Ham suggested the player was injury-prone and his £40,000 per week wages were deemed too prohibitive for some.
Even so, it appears that Newcastle could be interested in landing Austin after Christmas, with Steve McClaren admitting that the forward is on their radar. In fact, his comments make one wonder why the Magpies haven’t already signed him.
“He’s been on the radar here from the second half of last season, stayed on it during the summer and he will still be on the radar in January,” said Steve McClaren. “Definitely.”
It appears that Austin’s wages and the fact that QPR demanded £15 million for the player put off Newcastle and Crystal Palace in the summer, although perhaps the striker will get a move to a Premier League club in January.
