Newcastle United captain writes open letter to fans ahead of “three cup finals”
Fabricio Coloccini wants supporters to back the team for remaining three Premier League matches

Newcastle United are sinking fast and the season can’t end quickly enough for a Magpies side who are in danger of being relegated from the Premier League.
There has been a massive slump in recent weeks, with defeat following defeat and last Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Leicester saw two players sent off at the King Power Stadium.
Things are looking bleak for Newcastle, with John Carver remaining as manager after Steve McClaren declined the invitation to take charge this week, although Fabricio Coloccini has written to fans asking them for their support.
The supporters are totally disgusted with Carver as manager and Mike Ashley as owner, although the club captain wants their backing for Saturday’s crunch clash against West Brom.
“I would like to make a call to all fans today to also leave aside all differences, all different opinions, anything that divides us as people who love this club.
“On Saturday, please come to St James’ Park, create a great atmosphere, support the team more than ever, because at the end of the day what matters the most here is Newcastle United Football Club.
“I am also a fan and I understand how badly you are hurting, but I think that the best fans are those who are there for their club in the worst of situations.
“Today we need you more than ever. In these three games we need to be together, we need to be united, to be a family – a family that fights together against adversity, a family that strives to achieve the success that you and this club deserve.”
