It looks like Southampton are about to end the exodus of players who have left the club this summer, with Morgan Schneiderlin denied the chance to link up with his former manager at White Hart Lane.
Schneiderlin was hoping to join Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham although Southampton have prevented the midfielder from leaving the club, prompting an angry tweet from the player.
“6 years of an amazing journey #saintsfc DESTROYED in 1 hour!!!” he tweeted after it emerged that the move wouldn’t be going ahead.
Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers have all flown the nest this summer, although Schneiderlin will remain a disgruntled figure at Southampton.
The player met with Tottenham representatives on Tuesday but has been told in no uncertain terms that he won’t be leaving the club this summer, with the Saints also keen to retain the services of Jay Rodriguez after losing Lambert.
Chairman Ralph Krueger has apparently called a halt to any more outgoings, saying: “They are part of the core that we have decided to keep at Southampton.”
He added: “Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin are not for sale and they will be a part of our club as we enter the new season.”
The new manager Ronald Koeman has begun rebuilding by bringing in Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pellè from the Dutch league and Krueger said: “We will have players coming in, we will make transfers to strengthen the squad. I can understand some frustration but we needed to stay silent to do the best deals for the club. “
