Manchester United unlikely to sign Leighton Baines according to Martinez
Leighton Baines has been the subject of interest from the Red Devils this summer, although his Everton manager reckons that the left-back is staying at Goodison Park.

Baines produced a bright performance in an England shirt on Wednesday night and assisted the Rickie Lambert winner against Scotland, with Roberto Martinez revealing that Manchester United lodged a bid for the player in June.
However, the £12m offer was considerably lower than the reported asking price and, with Martinez claiming that was a final offer, it appears that Baines will remain at Everton for the coming season.
Martínez said: “Before we went to Austria one club officially contacted ourselves with an offer and it was a final offer. They put something over and the valuation wasn’t anywhere near the quality of Leighton Baines. That was the end of it but since then there’s been all the speculation, which has been part of what the transfer window is. There’s never been another club or anyone else putting in an offer for Leighton. Since then we’ve moved on and we’re continuing to focus on the start of the season.”
Quite whether Everton manage to retain the services of Marouane Fellaini is another matter, although it has been confirmed that the Belgian’s buy-out clause has now expired which will make it altogether more difficult for any club to sign the midfielder.
