Manchester United set to spend £150 million on players next summer
Louis van Gaal could sign Arjen Robben, Mats Hummels and Nathaniel Clyne

Manchester United are on course to play Champions League football next season and it appears that the Red Devils will have a new look squad for the start of the 2015/16 campaign.
Arjen Robben is reported to be top of United’s hit list despite the arrival of Angel Di Maria in the summer, with Louis van Gaal also keen to sign a central defender and it could be that Mats Hummels is persuaded to leave Borussia Dortmund.
Diego Godin and Nathaniel Clyne could also arrive to bolster a rearguard which is short of defenders, something which could see the likes of Rafael, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans all leave Old Trafford.
While Manchester United haven’t put a figure on how much they are prepared to spend, it appears that there isn’t a ceiling as the north-west club look to follow the Real Madrid spending blueprint which has seen the Spanish outfit splurge cash on marquee signings.
Van Gaal expects to have Wayne Rooney available for Monday’s clash at Southampton, with the Dutchman also optimistic that Di Maria will be in the squad soon.
The United manager made headlines earlier in the week bemoaning the busy Christmas schedule of fixtures, although Jose Mourinho claims that Van Gaal will get used to life in England.
“It’s the first time for him – next season it will be easier for him,” said Mourinho. “And my way of making it easier for me is just to think what we are giving to the people.
“If you think in that direction, that we are giving not just in England but, through television, something to football fans all around the world, it’s what they want and don’t have.
“It’s very difficult for all of us, but we are special because we are giving to the people something they love: football.”
