Fabregas was out of favour at Barcelona last season and the Red Devils are preparing a £35million bid for the player, with the former Arsenal midfielder waiting to see if he has a future at the Nou Camp.
Gerardo Martino has just become the new manager at Barca and might take the view that the Spanish international is an important squad member ahead of the new season, although United are waiting in the wings should the Catalan club concede he is surplus to requirements.
“My understanding is that Ed’s had a response and he’s spoken with them and again we’ve made a second offer,” David Moyes said. “But Ed’s dealing with that, rather than me personally here.”
He continued: “I think a point does come but I think when you are interested in good players you want to give it every opportunity to materialise. And I’ll do that. I’ll hope that things can continue to move forward. At this moment I can only tell you that Ed Woodward is working hard to make the deals happen and we’re hoping some of them will fall into place shortly.”
Wayne Rooney’s departure from Old Trafford might depend on whether United can succeed with their bid for Fabregas, with the English champions having not made any major signings yet this summer.
