Manchester United rank outsiders to win Champions League after drawing Bayern Munich
Red Devils handed toughest possible draw against the holders, while Chelsea face PSG
March 21st, 2014
Manchester United would have been hoping for a two-legged quarter final tie against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, although they will instead face Bayern Munich for a place in the last four.
The Red Devils produced an immense comeback to beat Olympiakos 3-0 on Wednesday night, although beating the holders is a different matter entirely and the bookmakers reacted to the draw by making David Moyes’ team a 33/1 chance to go all the way.
Bayern accounted for Arsenal in the previous round after winning 2-0 at the Emirates before the teams played out a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena, with Pep Guardiola’s side coasting to another Bundesliga title and they are strong favourites to overcome United and reach another semi-final.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will face Paris Saint-Germain in what is likely to be an evenly-matched contest, with the two teams both around 12/1 in the outright betting and Jose Mourinho will look forward to pitting his wits against Laurent Blanc.
PSG are bursting with quality players, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic among the biggest stars in the world, although Mourinho is a master in this competition and it should be an intriguing couple of matches.
There will be an all-Spanish tie, with Barcelona meeting Atletico Madrid for a place in the last four, while Real Madrid will be out for revenge against Borussia Dortmund after the German side reached the final at the expense of the La Liga team last season.
Manchester United will play the first leg of their last eight tie against Bayern at Old Trafford before heading to the Allianz Arena, although Chelsea head to France for their first leg match before entertaining PSG at Stamford Bridge.
Barcelona v Atlético Madrid
Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund
Paris Saint-Germain v Chelsea
