Manchester United in hot pursuit of Angel di Maria
Louis van Gaal wants to sign Di Maria from Real Madrid, with Mats Hummels also linked with a move to Old Trafford

Manchester United will begin a new era when Louis van Gaal finally returns home from the 2014 World Cup, with the Red Devils having already recruited Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera.
It appears that more signings are imminent and various news sources have suggested that Angel Di Maria is top of Van Gaal’s wish list, with the Argentina winger having shone for Real Madrid last season.
Di Maria’s performance in the Champions League final was especially eye-catching, although it is thought that United might have to shell out a total of £75m to capture the signature of the winger and Mats Hummels.
Hummels is believed to be open to a switch away from Borussia Dortmund, with Marouane Fellaini, Nani, Ashley Young and Shinji Kagawa thought to be making way so that new signings can be drafted in.
Di Maria came close to leaving the Bernabeu in January despite being an integral part of the team, with Real Madrid thought to be interested in Monaco player James Rodriguez.
Van Gaal expressed frustration after his Dutch team were eliminated from the World Cup, with two Netherlands players actually refusing to take a penalty in the shoot-out.
Van Gaal said: ”I ask myself the same question, if having won one before should have given us an advantage.
“It should give you confidence. We took them in incredible way against Costa Rica.
“The issue is that you have to score first penalty. I asked two players to take the first one before I ended up with Vlaar.”
