Manchester City avoided Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich when the Champions League semi-final draw was made on Friday, with the last remaining English representative being pitted against Real Madrid.
Los Merengues did come past Wolfsburg at the last eight stage, although they did trail 2-0 to the Bundesliga side after the first match before a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick helped them over the line.
“It is a difficult draw,” Pellegrini said. “It doesn’t matter which team we played.
“There is no greater motivation. Always the motivation to play the semi-final is unbelievable. The fans will enjoy the Champions League more the further we go. It involves all the best teams in the world.
“There was no preference for the opponent.”
Manuel Pellegrini previously managed Real Madrid and will now look to mastermind victory and steer his team to the semi-final stage of the competition.
Atletico Madrid’s reward for beating Barcelona is a double header against Bayern Munich, with Diego Simeone’s side looking a fearsome prospect in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Liverpool face Villarreal for a place in the Europa League final, with the Reds avoiding holders Sevilla and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Jurgen Klopp will be satisfied that the Reds are up against the Yellow Submarine, with Liverpool producing an amazing comeback to beat Borussia Dortmund over two legs.
