Manchester City Champions League favourites after draw
Manchester City draw Basel in the Champions League last sixteen, while Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain clash
December 12th, 2017
It’s always important to remember that the Champions League is cup competition from this point onwards, with the potential for two European giants to clash at an early stage.
This was certainly the case on Monday when Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain were drawn together, something that means one will be exiting before the last eight phase.
As a result, PSG’s odds to win the competition have drifted to as big as 6/1, with Real now available at 8/1 although it’s Manchester City who have shortened in the outright market.
Pep Guardiola’s side are no bigger than 16/5 to win the 2017/18 Champions League and will be happy enough to have drawn Basel in the next round, with the Swiss side finishing second in Manchester United’s group.
Barcelona drew Chelsea and the Catalan club are a 15/2 poke to win this season’s European Cup, while Antonio Conte’s side are now as big as 33/1 although they will fancy their chances after winning away to Atletico Madrid.
Manchester United have shortened to 14/1 after drawing Sevilla although the Spanish side did draw twice against Liverpool during the group phase.
Liverpool are as short as 14/1 after drawing Porto and their free-scoring ways could see them go close.
