LVG questions Juan Mata’s red card
United boss Louis van Gaal less than happy about being down to ten men

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal saw his side slump to a 1-0 defeat at the Hawthorns yesterday and the Dutchman has questioned referee Mike Dean’s decision regarding the sending off of Juan Mata in the match.
Mata received his first ever red card thanks to two bookings before the interval, the Spaniard watching the remainder of the match at the Hawthorns in the press box.
Indeed, Van Gaal recognised that the referee had a difficult decision to make, however he also believes that the character of the player should certainly have been taken into consideration.
“My opinion doesn’t count. You give as a referee within five minutes two yellow cards to the same person and you know also who is Juan Mata,” Van Gaal told reporters.
“I asked him a rhetorical question: ‘How many red cards (have you had in your career)?’ None.
“I had assumed that already so, yeah, as a player you have to know also when you have a yellow card that you have to take care of that.”
Following the weekend Premier League results, Manchester United sit sixth in the table, two points behind West Ham United and three points adrift of arch-rivals Manchester City.
