Suarez ended up scoring the second equaliser for Liverpool, thus denying their opponents three precious points, although it was in the 66th minute that the Reds striker courted controversy when apparently sinking his teeth into his opponent.
The Uruguayan has previous with this sort of thing, having received a seven-match ban at Ajax when biting Otman Bakka in November 2010. It appears that the FA will be throwing the book at a player that received an eight-match ban last season for an alleged racist comment directed towards Patrice Evra.
Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness claimed after the game that Suarez’s days at Liverpool might be numbered, with the striker having embarrassed himself with this latest incident.
“I’m not sure what to make of it really, embarrassing,” he said in his punditry role on Sky Sports 1. “A football club’s board of directors’ job is to attract and get the best football players and keep them at the football club. He is making it very difficult for himself to stay at Liverpool, I believe that puts him in the last chance saloon.
“More important than any of that is to safeguard the good name of the football club. This club is a world renowned football club. It is up there with any Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, it is up there with any of them.”
