Liverpool top of the Premier League after beating Man United 1-0
Daniel Sturridge’s early header was the only goal at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, with the Liverpool striker latching on to Daniel Agger’s header to diver the ball past David de Gea.

It was a typically feisty contest between the two north-west rivals, with referee Andre Marriner calling on the two captains to calm things down before the break, although the home side were a goal ahead by this stage and on their way to the top of the table.
Liverpool controlled the opening exchanges, with Sturridge proving a handful for Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, while Steven Gerrard controlled the midfield area and tempers started to flare, with Robin van Persie clashing with Agger.
The Red Devils were the better side after the break although failed to fashion any clear-cut chances until the dying minutes when Van Persie had a chance from a narrow angle but shot wide.
David Moyes felt that his team could have had a penalty when Danny Welbeck took a tumble in the box, although the referee saw nothing untoward and Liverpool were able to see the game out, with Raheem Sterling stinging De Gea’s palms with a late shot as Liverpool attacked on the counter.
