Brendan Rodgers was thwarted in his efforts to add fresh faces to his Liverpool FC squad in August, although it appears there could be money available to sign new strikers in January.

The Reds have had a poor start to the season with just one Premier League win in their first seven games, with Fabio Borini’s recent injury meaning that the team have just one fit recognised striker in Luis Suarez.
Andy Carroll is enjoying a season-long loan and signing a new player or three is a must for Rodgers who is hoping that club owners Fenway Sports Group agree with his verdict.
“There are still areas we want to reinforce – and we have to reinforce as soon as we can,” Rodgers is quoted as saying in the Mail on Sunday.
“Our best team are comparable to any team in the Premier League. But we’re a very thin squad and we are having to challenge on a lot of fronts.
“I’ve had good conversations with the owners and they understand where we are at as a team.”
Liverpool have been linked with a handful of players including Demba Ba, with the Newcastle striker having a £7 million release clause at St James’ Park which would allow him to leave Tyneside.
