Liverpool FC in hot pursuit of Jay Rodriguez after Remy deal falls through
Brendan Rodgers set to pilfer Southampton talent again according to latest reports
July 28th, 2014
Southampton FC must be getting sick of Liverpool acquiring their best players and the exodus from St Mary’s to Anfield could be set to continue this week.
Dejan Lovren is poised to follow Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert to the Merseyside club this week, while several news sources now report that Brendan Rodgers has turned his attention to Jay Rodriguez.
Liverpool looked set to bolster their attacking options by signing Loic Remy although a failed medical saw the proposed £8 million move collapse and it leaves Rodgers considering a move for Rodriguez intead.
The 24-year-old arrived at Southampton in 2012, with the former Burnley forward having made a striking impression for the Saints last season to the extent where he earned a call-up to the England squad.
Rodriguez scored fifteen goals last season and was the third highest-scoring Englishman in the Premier League behind Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney. It is clear that his rapport with Lallana and Lambert could spell good news for Liverpool.
It also appears that Tottenham could be interested in signing Rodriguez, with Liverpool also considering Wilfried Bony of Swansea who was among the Premier League’s top scorers last season although the Welsh club would be loath to lose their star striker.
Divock Origi looks set to become a Liverpool player over the next fortnight although the Belgian forward will be loaned out to Lille once again, while Daniel Agger is poised to sign for Barcelona following the recruitment of Lovren.
