Liverpool FC bid £21.8m for Atletico striker Diego Costa
Could Diego Costa be the replacement for Luis Suarez at Anfield next season? Brendan Rodgers looks ready to splash the cash on the Brazilian striker as the Liverpool manager sets about strengthening his squad before the transfer window closes.

Costa scored 20 goals in 44 games for Atletico Madrid last term and it appears that the bid of £21.8m meets the player’s release clause at the Spanish club, with the Merseyside club now hoping that a deal can be struck in a short space of time.
Atletico don’t appear too willing to sell one of their star players, especially after losing Radamel Falcao to Monaco earlier this summer and the Madrid club have denied receiving an official offer.
Nevertheless, with David Villa and Léo Baptistão having arrived at the Spanish outfit recently, it might be that Costa is surplus to requirements and manager Diego Simeone might advise that his club cash in on a controversial player whose disciplinary record compares similarly to that of Luis Suarez.
Suarez remains on the books at Anfield and Arsenal show no sign of increasing their £40,000,001 bid that has been on the table for the past fortnight.
Rodgers has stated that there is money to spend at Liverpool without needing to sell the likes of Suarez. “We’ve got money to spend on getting that quality in, but if it’s not available I won’t waste it for the sake of bringing a player in. We’re really working hard to bring in the type of profile that can really help us push on. We just need to see if that’s available and affordable.”
