Barcelona are keen to bolster their defence and it appears the Dane is on Gerardo Martino’s hit list at the Nou Camp, with the Catalan club having lodged a £14.6m bid for Agger over the past few days.
The Guardian report that this bid has been rejected by Liverpool although it appears that the player is open to a move to Barca and the chance to once again play in the Champions League, with the Spanish side one of the favourites to win the competition.
Agger was recently made vice-captain at Liverpool, having been at Anfield since 2006 when he completed a move from Brondby, although the player’s agent claims that the central defender is open to a move to Barcelona.
“We are aware that Barcelona have made an offer for Daniel that Liverpool have rejected,” said Per Steffensen. “Daniel has a contract with Liverpool for the next three years and it would be up to the clubs to agree a fee for his transfer in order for that to change.”
Agger is a key player at the Merseyside club considering that Jamie Carragher has recently retired, with Kolo Toure the only new defensive reinforcement this simmer although Granada’s left-back Guilherme Siqueira appears close to a move.
