Jose Mourinho dismisses Barcelona’s Champions League prospects
The Chelsea manager claims this is the worst Barca team for ‘many, many years’

Barcelona are favourites to get the better of Manchester City over two legs in the Champions League although Jose Mourinho does not rate the Spanish champions and claims that Manuel Pellegrini’s team might well progress at their expense.
Mourinho has little time for Barca and is their public enemy number one following spells at Internazionale and then Real Madrid, with the Chelsea boss claiming that the Barcelona side are weaker than in previous seasons.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side are the underdogs coming into the tie but have the opportunity to draw first blood on Tuesday night and Mourinho reckons they have a chance.
Mourinho said in an interview with ITV: “Of course, by history, Barcelona is the favourite, but this Barcelona, this season, is showing that it is not the same in previous years.
“Of course they have Messi, he is special, and they have more than him. But I think this is the worst Barcelona of many, many years – so City have a chance.”
Despite Mourinho’s assertion, Barca are top of the Spanish league on goal difference, having won 19 of their 24 games this season, while they have already scored 69 goals this term.
Gerardo Martino is looking forward to pitting his wits against Pellegrini and claims that this is a showdown that is worthy of the Champions League final.
“Yeah, it could have been,” he said. “It would be ideal if we meet them later, maybe in the last eight. The two teams are very good, doing very well in the league and the cups, and it is the perfect timing for them to arrive into this game.
“For the last six seasons Barcelona have made it to the semis and the fans are used to it. It will be difficult to understand if we don’t go through but it is the tightest tie of all.”
