Joe Kinnear appointed director of football at Newcastle after bizarre interview
You could be forgiven for thinking it was April Fool’s Day, although Newcastle United have indeed installed Joe Kinnear as their new director of football.

It was confirmed that Alan Pardew will report to Kinnear, although it remains to be seen whether the Magpies manager will want to remain at St James’ Park considering he might feel the latest move has undermined his position.
Kinnear was interviewed by Talksport on Monday night and produced some outlandish claims including the notion that he was responsible for signing Tim Krul and James Perch despite evidence to suggest otherwise.
The 66-year-old also struggled with the names of several Newcastle players, talking about “Shola Amenobee, Yohan Kebab and Hatem Ben Afre” while he also claimed that Cabaye’s proposed move to Monaco would be blocked.
“I heard a silly comment of ‘what can I attract?’ I can open the door to any manager in the world, anyone, that’s the difference,” said Kinnear. “I’ve spent my whole life talking to [Sir] Alex Ferguson, week in, week out. I can pick the phone up at any time of the day and speak to Arsène Wenger, any manager in the league. In all the divisions.”
Owner Mike Ashley is ultimately responsible for appointing Kinnear who first arrived at St James’ Park in 2008 when replacing Kevin Keegan for a short spell.
