Gus Poyet has been in charge of Brighton & Hove Albion since 2009, althugh it appears the Uruguayan is about to leave the south coast and take charge of Reading instead.
The Royals are hoping to install a replacement for Brian McDermott by the weekend and it appears that owner Anton Zingarevich prefers the credentials of Poyet over Nigel Adkins, who was also thought to be on the shortlist for a switch to the Madejski Stadium.
There was a big gamble on Poyet on Wednesday morning which saw the Brighton manager hit odds of 1/10 to become the next Reading manager, although there is a possibility that the Seagulls and the Royals will swap divisions next season, with Albion in the hunt for a Championship play-off place.
Eamonn Dolan has taken charge of the Reading first team since McDermott was sacked by the club, although it now seems that Gus Poyet will be tasked with the difficult job of keeping the Berkshire side in the top flight.
Adkins will feel as though he has other opportunities to consider, with the former Southampton coach linked to the vacant positions at Blackburn and Leeds.
