Fiorentina v Roma betting preview – Goals at a premium in all-Italian clash
Goals-galore isn't something we're expecting tonight when fellow Serie A sides Fiorentina and Roma go head-to-head in the Europa League tonight
March 12th, 2015
We have just two ties in this round involving domestic rivals, the other involving La Liga sides Villareal and Sevilla. For Fiorentina this is the second successive season where they have faced up to another Italian side in this competition, Juventus providing the opponents in the quarter-final of last year’s Europa League, winning 2-1.
Nevertheless, we have been more than impressed by Fiorentina this term, the side defeating Juventus to the tune of 2-1 in the first-leg semi-final of the Coppa Italia, however their rearguard will be severely put to the test by Roma in this encounter.
Fiorentina disposed of Tottenham Hotspur in the previous round of the competition as well as Inter Milan, however they will struggle against a Roma side which is particularly solid in defence.
Nevertheless, matches involving Roma have tended to be somewhat low-scoring and they are drawing too many matches perhaps with all but seven of their last twenty outings ending in stalemate. They can thank Gervinho for scoring the winning goal to secure them a position in this round at Feyenoord’s expense and Rudi Garcia’s side will be looking to keep things very tight on the road and gain an advantage going into the second leg on home turf.
As such, we’re not expecting goals-galore and with just one match from the last seven head-to-heads involving more than 2.5 goals, we’ll be expecting that trend to continue in this match.
With that in mind, odds of 3/4 for under 2.5 goals doesn’t offer much in the way of value and we’ll be pushing the boat out and backing less than 1.5 goals.
