Tottenham 1 Chelsea 5 – Blues blow Spurs away
Chelsea will face Liverpool in the 2012 FA Cup final after handing out a 5-1 thrashing to Tottenham on Sunday evening, although the match was not without its controversy.
April 15th, 2012
Didier Drogba, Juan Mata, Ramires, Frank Lampard and Florent Malouda were all on the scoresheet for the Blues, although Mata’s shot didn’t appear to cross the line and left the Tottenham defence seething.
Even so, it was hard to argue that the better team didn’t win, with Chelsea’s first-half dominance being rewarded just before half-time when Drogba found the net.
Mata’s goal was clearly the turning point and it seems as though the referee was incorrect to award the goal as the ball didn’t cross the goal line, although Gareth Bale did pull a goal back for Tottenham in the 56th minute and it did look as though Spurs could get back into it.
Unfortunately for them, Ramires struck in the 77nd minute to leave the north London side chasing the game, with Frank Lampard adding an excellent fourth goal before Florent Malouda added some gloss to the scoreline.
It was a welcome boost for Chelsea ahead of their Champions League clash against Barcelona, although Tottenham need to dust themselves down as they aim for a top four place.
