Can we bring ourselves to back Everton?
Looking at the form, we should be jumping up and down at the 2/1 available on Everton to beat Liverpool in tomorrow’s FA Cup semi-final. We should, but for some reason, we can’t bring ourselves to do it just yet.

All logic should tell us that we’d be mad not to bite the hands off BetVictor, Sky Bet and Ladbrokes and take the 2/1 available on the men from the blue side of Stanley Park. After all, Everton have won four and drawn one from the last five, against Liverpool’s one win and three defeats from the last five.
Everton, unusually for them, are also finding goals easy to come by, having scored 12 in that run of games (and four in the last outing against Sunderland), whereas Liverpool will be asking everyone from the kit man through to the work experience girl whether they fancy playing in goal.
It should be a win for Everton, it really should, so why are we nervous?
Last month’s Merseyside derby probably has something to do with it, when Steven Gerrard single-handedly put the men from Goodison in their place with a 3-0 spanking at Anfield, but Everton have only lost once (to Arsenal) in the seven games since, so they’ve more than recovered.
We even think that the game should suit Everton. It’ll be nervous, defences will be on their game and we don’t expect many goals – but we still can’t back Everton at 2/1. What’s wrong with us?
Maybe it’s just that, well, this is Everton and generally, Everton tend to play the role of “gallant runners up” better than anyone. They’re the “seventh placed” team (in fact, they’re exactly that right now) – too good to go down but probably not going to make much of an impression in the fight for European spots. They’ll get to semi-finals, and even scrape through to the final now and again, but winning things? That’s usually the sort of thing that they leave for the bigger clubs. Is this a bash at Everton? Not at all. They’re the sort of club that, here at FootballScores.com, we really like – plucky, honest, punching well above their weight, nurturing young talent – a far cry from most of the Premier League.
You know what? Forget it. Our tips are usually useless anyway – Everton 2/1 it is!
