Everton FC sack Roberto Martinez
Martinez a dead man walking at Everton after Toffees take another away beating
May 12th, 2016
Everton will start the 2016/16 season with a new manager after Roberto Martinez’s position at Goodison Park recently became untenable.
The Spaniard guided the Toffees to the semi-final stage of the Capital One Cup and the FA Cup, although it’s largely been an underwhelming Premier League season with few recent high notes.
Martinez continued to suggest he would continue at Everton, although the club have acted quickly to dispense with his services, thus avoiding a toxic atmosphere for the final game of the season against Norwich City.
Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat at Sunderland saw the Black Cats win with ease, escaping relegation and strengthening the supporter view that Martinez should leave the club immediately.
With a player award ceremony taking place on Thursday evening, the Everton board have made the decision to sack Martinez and potentially pursue Frank de Boer who has recently left Ajax.
