There was always going to be at least one Suarez talking point after the Merseyside derby, with the Uruguayan actually having an excellent game for Liverpool although the striker made himself no friends at Goodison Park.

Luis Suarez was on hand to fire the ball across goal in the 14th minute where Leighton Baines could only deflect into his own net, while six minutes later the forward doubled the Reds’ advantage thanks to a smart finish.

However, Everton quickly rallied and were back in the game two minutes later when Leon Osman’s sweetly-struck shot found the corner of the Liverpool net, while Steven Naismith beat Nikica Jelavic to the ball ten minutes later and the home side were level.

It was a rather breathless first 35 minutes which had seen Suarez celebrate Liverpool’s second in front of opposition manager David Moyes following the latter’s comment about the Uruguayan’s play-acting in the build-up to this match.

However, Moyes was incensed in the second half when Suarez caught Sylvain Distin on the ankle with a nasty challenge and claims that the forward should have been red-carded.

Deep into injury-time, Suarez thought he had scored the winning goal when hooking the ball past Tim Howard from close range only for the striker to be incorrectly ruled offside. Jelavic had previously had a golden chance to score when heading wide.
