On the one hand, there’s a short distance when it comes to playing the away leg in Edinburgh, although the Reds might have opted against facing a Scottish team who will be looking to cause an upset.

Hearts didn’t do themselves justice when being thrashed by Tottenham at the same stage of the Europa League twelve months ago and will be looking to catch a Liverpool team on the hop, especially with Rodgers really focusing on improving Premier League form this term.

Newcastle will face Atromitos of Greece while Motherwell have been given a tough assignment after being drawn against Spanish Primera Division side Levante.

The first leg is set to be played on either August 22 or 23 with the return a week later and the undoubted interest in Britain will be Liverpool’s clash with Hearts, who will host the first leg.
