Mario Gotze to join Bayern from Dortmund for £30m
The German transfer record looks set to be shattered this summer, as Bayern Munich has announced the acquisition of 20-year old Mario Gotze.

Having been subjected to all the usual “not-for-sale sticker” clichés during his impressive run in the Champions League over the past couple of seasons – when Arsenal were thought to be stroking their chins over a £30m bid in winter 2011 – Gotze has triggered a release clause in his contract which will allow him to switch from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern on 1 July.
When previously pressed on the Gunners’ intentions to lure away the youngster, director of sport Michael Zorc wished for the swirling rumours to be thrown “in a heavy chest and let cobwebs grow” on them.
Not one for a bit of gossip, then; that Mr Zorc.
The release clause was triggered with a bid reported to be almost £32m to Borussia Dortmund, who will join the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions in July, along with new coach Pep Guardiola. With six games left to go this season, Bayern are 20 points ahead of Dortmund and will hope to extend the gap even further with the acquisition of Dortmund’s prized asset. Borussia themselves will be hoping for a few astute purchases over the summer with their Gotze money – it remains to be seen just how this deal will affect the clubs’ fortunes.
Both sides are in the semi-finals for the Champions League, and could meet at Wembley on the 25th May if Dortmund dispatch Real Madrid and Bayern take care of Barcelona.
