A wasteful France team were unable to avoid defeat in Kiev on Tuesday night, with Laurent Blanc’s side losing 2-0 to a Sweden side who had already been eliminated from the competition.

The Scandinavians lost to Ukraine and England in their first two Group D matches although Erik Hamrén’s side were determined to go out on a high and beat their opponents with two second-half goals.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the stand-out Sweden player during their 3-2 defeat to England and the captain hit the back of the net in the 54th minute to give his team the lead.
France were producing lots of half-chances by this stage of the game, although 16 of their 21 shots were off target while their opponents were a lot more accurate when chances came their way.
Sunderland’s Sebastian Larsson sealed the points with a 90th minute striker and Blanc will wonder whether it was a sensible idea to field Yann M´Vila and Hatem Ben Arfa, with the pair making way in the second half.
It means France must now face Spain on Saturday in Donetsk where they will be big underdogs against the tournament favourites.
