Portugal are through to the Euro 2012 quarter finals after a 2-1 win over Holland on Sunday night which saw Cristiano Ronaldo score two excellent goals to help his team into the last eight.

It was a wide open game between two teams that needed victory to ensure progress beyond the group stage although the Netherlands started brightest and were ahead in the 11th minute thanks to a special effort from Rafael van der Vaart.
The Tottenham midfielder received the ball from Arjen Robben outside the area and his exquisite finish beat Rui Patricio, giving Holland real hope that they could achieve the two-goal winning margin to help them through to the quarter finals.
However, Portugal soon began to stamp their authority on the match and the game was level after half an hour when Cristiano Ronaldo scored the first of his two goals, with Helder Postiga having narrowly missed before this.
Ronaldo was excellent throughout the contest and he produced a composed finish to seal the points for his team when the Portuguese captain latched on to Nani’s pass across the Dutch penalty area.
The Real Madrid forward seemed to wait an age before slotting the ball past Maarten Stekelenburg and that sets up a quarter final against Czech Republic in the next round.
