Norway 0 England 1: Ashley Young gives Hodgson a winning debut
Roy Hodgson will be relieved to have started his England managerial career with a win, something which keeps the nation’s media and supporters onside ahead of Euro 2012.

The Three Lions came out of the traps flying and played pretty well for the first thirty minutes of this friendly contest in Oslo, although the tempo slowed down thereafter, with England comfortably containing Norway without threatening the opposition too much.
Ashley Young is many people’s idea of top England scorer at Euro 2012 due to the fact that the Manchester United forward will ultimately play in an attacking position and it was the former Watford winger that scored the only goal of this game.
Steven Gerrard drew defenders away and allowed Young to waltz through and smartly slot the ball past Jarstein, with England continuing to dominate the opening exchanges.
Perhaps it was inevitable that the second half of the game would be dull based on the multiple substitutions that both teams made, with Gareth Barry, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain among the England changes.
The England defence were largely solid, although Phil Jones is the only player from that back five that can realistically expect to start against France on 11 June.
