The 21-year-old has previously been subjected to racist abuse in his native Italy and has stated that he will kill anyone who throws a banana at him during the European Championship, something that might actually incite a supporter to do exactly that.

The Manchester City striker said: said: “I will not accept racism at all. It’s unacceptable. If someone throws a banana at me in the street, I will go to jail, because I will kill them.

“Let’s see what happens at the Euros,” he added. “I hope it will pass without a problem.”

Balotelli was pelted by bananas in Rome ahead of a European Under-21 Championship, something which continues to be strong in the memory of the forward.

“It was lucky that the police arrived quickly because, I swear, I would have beaten them. I would have really destroyed them. I hope it never happens again.”
