England captain wants Wayne Rooney pumped for Ukraine match
Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney are pretty good friends off the pitch and the England captain is hoping they can forge a good understanding at Euro 2012, starting with tonight’s game against Ukraine where the Three Lions will hope to qualify for the quarter finals.

Rooney has served a two-game ban for his red card against Montenegro and will start against a Ukraine side going for the win after losing their second game against France.
Gerrard is delighted to have the Manchester United forward back in the team and certainly doesn’t want anything less than a fired up Wayne Rooney.
“I’m not going to tell Wayne Rooney not to be fired up for this game,” he said.
“That’s what he is all about: pressing, being aggressive in the right way.
“We need him on the pitch. He’s aware of that. He regrets his reaction when he got the suspension.
“But he’s a world-class player and I can see it in his eyes that he’s itching to get out there and perform.”
Gerrard wants total focus on the match and won’t allow himself to become distracted by the prospect of a last eight game against Spain or Italy.
“I am trying to force myself not even to talk about quarter-finals, or get involved in it,” said the midfielder.
“It would be very disrespectful to tomorrow’s opposition, who are very dangerous.
“If I started talking about quarter-finals and we slipped up I would never forgive myself.
“Let’s deal what we can expect if we get there.”
